After serving nine years as Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Moultrie, Georgia, Pastor Julian Griner resigned to follow a call from God to “Build a spring.” While pursuing that call, Pastor Griner accepted the opportunity to serve as Interim Pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church in Moultrie. In the summer of 2000, when asked if he was going to start a new Church, Pastor Griner surprised himself by saying “Someday, someone is going to give the land to start a new work and when they do, I will know it is time.”
On Wednesday, November 15, 2000 that declaration came to pass. Lavon Stripling, owner of Farmer’s Gin and Peanut, met with Pastor Griner at a 40 acre field near the Cotton Gin. He shared the amazing testimony of his walk with the Lord and concluded the testimony by indicating that God had told him to give the land where they were meeting for the starting of a new work. Realizing that God had fulfilled the vision of the land, Pastor Griner knew it was time to proceed with the call to “build a spring” and the Lifespring Community Church of Moultrie, Georgia was born.
A vision service was held at Magnolia Manor’s Antioch Chapel in Moultrie with approximately 75 people in attendance. By the middle of December, a temporary worship center had been secured at Sunset Plaza with the first worship service being held on January 7, 2001. In April, 2001 The Ameris Bank of Moultrie provided a construction loan of $500,000 and Lifespring Community Church built a new 13,000 square foot Worship Center on the donated property. In what proved to be another miracle from God, the facility that should have taken one full year to build was completed in just four months. The Church held its first service in the new building on September 30, 2001.
As with any new Church searching to form an identity and establish its vision, there have been many changes. Some of those whom God used to launch the new work would be called to other places of service during subsequent months. With each passing year, however, the foundation grows stronger and the Church family becomes more “rooted and grounded in love.” As the word of God declares in Acts 17:28, “In Him we live and move and have our being.”
